Mount Merapi erupts again and hinders aid efforts

The recent Indonesia earthquake caused Mount Merapi to erupt, followed by a second eruption days afterward. The first occurred just following the earthquake. Over 30 people were killed within the initial Mount Merapi eruption. The Indonesia earthquake has thrashed the region. The quake triggered a tsunami, flooding and a volcanic eruption, and hundreds are dead or missing. Aid is starting to pour to the area.

Second eruption Mount Merapi makes

Mount Merapi, a volcano on the island of Java, has erupted for the second time. The previous eruption occurred just two days previous, according to the BBC. The first eruption killed a total of 32 people. These people were either suffocated from gases or died from burns. Outside of Sidorejo is a communal grave south of the volcano where 20 of those were buried. The spiritual guardian of the volcano, Maridjan, was killed there. There are still aid workers trying to find victims of the first blast when numerous victims are beginning to show respiratory difficulties as a result of the exposure.

Aid slow to enter the region

Aid and relief efforts have been slow going. Efforts to aid victims of the Indonesia earthquake are impeded by severe flooding and also the battered terrain. CNN reports that traveling to the Pagai Islands, which is where had been hit hardest, will take at least a day. Sumatra and Java have been hit hard by the Indonesian tsunami. Islands around there were hit hard too. 400 were killed because of the earthquake and tsunami. That's not even counting the missing of 300 people. You will find thousands that no longer have a home.

UN and nonprofits send aid

The United Nations, as well as a host of non-profits, like SurfAid are sending relief workers and supplies. More than other things, time is needed. This is the only way the volcanic eruptions, earthquake and tsunami damage could be fixed.

Indonesian aid efforts hindered by Mount Merapi erupting again

After the first eruption of Mount Merapi was triggered by the recent earthquake in Indonesia, the mountain has erupted again. The first occurred just after the earthquake. Over 30 people were killed in the initial Mount Merapi eruption. The area has been decimated by the effects of the Indonesia earthquake. The quake triggered a tsunami, flooding and a volcanic eruption, and hundreds are dead or missing. Aid organizations have a difficult task in reaching some of the harder hit areas.

Another eruption out of Merapi

The volcano on Java island erupted a second time. This was Mount Merapi. The previous eruption occurred just two days previous, according to the BBC. Because of burns or suffocation from gasses, there were 32 people killed with the first erruption. At least 20 of those people were buried in a communal grave outside of Sidorejo, which is south of the volcano. Maridjan was a local elder responsible for guarding the volcano spiritually. He died in the first eruption. The exposure from the blast has caused many victims to start showing respiratory problems. Also, aid workers are still looking for victims who were hit by the first blast that occurred.

Getting aid is difficult

Aid and relief efforts have been slow going. Because of the flooding and the terrible terrain, victims of the Indonesia earthquake haven't been getting much aid. At least a day is required to get into the Pagai Islands, reports CNN. Places like that were hit the hardest. The hardest hit islands by the Indonesian tsunami were surrounding islands of Sumatra and Java. More than of 400 people have been killed as a result of the earthquake and tsunami, and more than 300 are missing. There are thousands that no longer have a home.

Nonprofits and UN both send aid

The United Nations has sent in relief workers and aid. Nonprofits such as SurfAid has sent in some too. There is going to be time needed to fix the problems from the volcanic eruptions, earthquake and tsunami more than anything else.

Hamid Karzai candid about taking bags of cash from Iran, United States of America

Hamid Karzi’s presidency in Afghanistan has been full of questions regarding competency and trustworthiness. According to Associated Press accounts, Karzai has admitted he normally takes money from Iran and the United States – bags of cash, in fact. One wonders whether those political enemies are pleased with the Karzai their money can buy.

'Official presidential expenses’ is the excuse Hamid Karzai gives for taking funds

Hamid Karzai gets about $700,000 to $975,000 in gifts as “donations” from Iran once or twice a year. Washington also sends the Afghan palace “bags of money” based on Karzai who claims the United States of America has known regarding the Iranian assistance for some time. Some speculate Karzai came forward with this info to take the heat off his chief of staff, Umar Daudzai, whom the New York Times recently reported as also accepting cash from Iran. The cash has been paying for high-ranking Taliban officials. Supposedly it also went to Afghan lawmakers and tribal elders.

Money goes to Karzai from ’several nations’ because his revenue is lacking

According to the CIA World Factbook, Afghanistan’s economy was in shambles before the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001. International assistance has aided recovery, however the nation is nevertheless considered poor and “highly dependent on foreign aid, agriculture and trade with neighboring nations.”. This is supposedly true despite the fact that opium and hashish product comes from Afghanistan more than anywhere else in the world. It makes sense that Hamid Karzai would not be interested in enforcing the rules regarding illegal drug trade the Obama administration has accused him of having since the business makes the country a ton of money.

The public in Afghanistan shows Karzai as an ineffective ruler Today’s Views explains. This isn’t because of the common beliefs that numerous would think, Wikipedia states. The economy in Afghanistan is agriculture based upon. Since poppies sell probably the most in Afghanistan, poor farmers end up in the drug business whether or not that is what they’d hope to be doing. The cash doesn’t all go to them either. It’s divided up. Since other nations are feeding Hamid Karzai so much cash, this makes sense. Karzai probably is just taking it.

Haiti confirms cholera episode has murdered 168, to date

A cholera episode outside Part-au-Prince has been confirmed. With more than 1,500 individuals infected, the outbreak is huge. The outbreak is blamed on the slow recovery from January’s earthquake.

Cholera episode can eliminate

For practically a week, medical officials in Haiti are waiting for confirmation on a disease outbreak in Saint-Marc. The diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration caused by the cholera bacteria could be fatal, especially for children and the elderly. The outbreak of cholera has overwhelmed hospitals because of numbers. One hospital set up emergency care for cholera victims within the parking lot but had to move them inside when it began to rain. Hospitals have been attempting to transfer patients around hospitals with more room, but the speed with which cholera moves makes that strategy difficult. There are thousands infected when 168 individuals have already died.

Been a century since the last cholera episode in Haiti

According to the World Health Organization, it has been over 100 years since this happened before in Haiti. A cholera outbreak like this is obviously not regular. Drinking dirty water is how cholera is transmitted usually. Some with cholera are saying purified water had been all they drank. Either way, WHO officials are tracking down what they believe to be the source of the outbreak. Treatment of cholera fast is necessary since one can perish within four hrs of getting cholera if that person is healthy.

Giving Haiti airlift materials for cholera

Haiti has already started seeing some of the medical and humanitarian materials coming to them. The densely populated camps of earthquake survivors are very prone to outbreaks of cholera. The country is getting a lot of antibiotics, rehydration salts and saline drips. The lack of a strong sanitation and vaccination infrastructure in Haiti complicates the treatment possibilities for the disease. Until earthquake survivors have reliable sanitation, cholera outbreaks are a consistent and constant concern.

Panic room stops Somali pirates from seizing Beluga Fortune

Sunday the German born ship Beluga Fortune had been assaulted and boarded by Somali pirates. A scant 24 hrs later, the buccaneers jumped vessel and fled following the Beluga Fortune crew members locked themselves in a safe room and shut down the vessel. Almost two decades of anarchy in Somalia has permitted piracy to thrive and 2010 has seen the highest occurrence of pirate assaults since 2005.

The Beluga Fortune did not proceed with the confrontation with buccaneers

From the United Arab Emirates, the Beluga Fortune had been on its way to South Africa. Out of nowhere, an attack came from Somali pirates. The ship had been only 1,200 miles east of Mombasa, Kenya when the pirates got it, reports the Associated Press. A distress call came from the vessel as soon as the pirates attacked. Then, all 16 members of the crew locked themselves within the panic room designed for times like this, accounts Reuters. From the room, the crew shut down the engines, cut off fuel and disabled the bridge.

Panic room makes pirates really angry

Somali pirates are frustrated by a panic room before, in Sept through the seizure of the German Freighter Magellan Star. American soldiers freed the vessel only 22 hrs following it was taken, accounts Spiegal Online International. The team went into a room that had been hard to find and harder to break into called a safety room. The room was stocked with food, drinks, medical equipment and supplies. The ship’s owners were in contact with the captain. A satellite phone made this possible. A secret emergency exit was there for the men if they had to leave. This had been if they needed to get off the ship. A spokesman for the Magellan Star’s owner told Spiegal “the pirates called our shipping company in desperation, wanting to know where the crew was.”

Facts about the Somali buccaneers

The Somalia government collapsed in 1991 which has left shipping off the country’s coast very difficult with Somali pirates. According to the European Union Naval force, Somali pirates are currently holding 19 ships and 428 hostages. 44 percent of the pirate assaults within the last year have come from the Somali buccaneers, reports the Strategy Page. Since Jan, one crew member has been killed, and 27 are injured. A total of 773 sailors are held for ransom.

Hylands Teething Tablets on recall because of toxic belladonna

When children start teething, they share a world of pain with mom and dad. The torturous assault on the gum line could be mollified by teething tablets, as many parents vow. Yet Hyland’s Teething Tablets, possibly probably the most popular brand for this very situation, has pulled back the curtain to reveal a frightening reality. Hyland is voluntarily recalling the item due to problems with toxicity, states the U.S. FDA. The teething relief item has some belladonna in it, which can be lethal if ingested in large amounts.

Hyland’s Teething Tablets ought to be discarded immediately, business says

Make sure you take Hyland’s advice. Get all teething tablets out of your home. For safe replacements, parents are advised to contact the business at hylandsteething.com/recall or 877-496-5044. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. is whenever you can get a hold of the customer service call center.

Belladonna has to be ‘carefully controlled’

Belladonna has to be controlled carefully, states the Food and Drug Administration, although it has been used as an anesthetic. This is really true still, even when involving children. Kids are especially susceptible. An analysis within the lab found there were “inconsistent amounts of belladonna.” Parents should be cautious due to this. This is in part since the FDA has gotten accounts of children suffering adverse effects consistent with belladonna toxicity (dilated pupils, blurred vision, light sensitivity, confusion, rash, constipation, etc.). There’s a significant danger since there aren’t child resistant caps on the Hyland Teething Tablets.
