Russian spy swap takes place, thanks to Vision Airlines

When US and Russian spies were being swapped on a tarmac, the U.S.A. was represented by a private charter jet. The business of Vision Airlines is usually escape travel, but they got the contract for this flight. Some are questioning the use of a private charter company for government business.

Spies from two countries swapped thanks to Vision Airlines

In a moment that looked like a scene from a spy movie than other things, a Vision Airlines jet and a Russian Emergency Ministry jet met up on a tarmac in Vienna. Ten accused Russian agents got on the Russian plane when four “Western Sympathizers” got on the Vision Airlines jet. The biggest post-Cold War era spy drama was hopefully over once both planes took off.

The choice of Vision Airlines

A couple of questions are raised over why the US chose a luxury charter jet rather than an official airplane. An official Russian plane was used for the transfer. Was the U.S. Government trying to pamper the agents which were being brought back? Or were all the available planes already taken? It is possible that both the United States and Russia agreed to not use military planes, just in case. Either way, the choice of a luxury charter jet to swap spies is an interesting one. Is Vision Airlines donating the a number of thousand dollar fee, or is the government going to get an invoice. Vision Airlines is certainly getting attention for the choice – their site has crashed multiple times today.

Improving relations between countries

Reportedly, the President was continually briefed on most decisions involved with the spy swap. It appears most decisions were made to avoid conflict between the two countries. Both of the countries have expressed a desire to keep the tepid relations from again turning cold.
