Hipmunk your way to lower air fares online

Adam Goldstein came up with this summer project he could do. This Hipmunk ended up being more than that as it became the best place to find cheap flights. With a little help from friend and Reddit co-founder Steve Huffman, Goldstein took an old dog and taught it a bevy of new tricks, reports CNN Money. Goldstien may have just gotten into a great business considering the color and user-friendly interface of the website.

Get every little thing differently with Hipmunk

Normally there is a dull list of flights on websites. Hipmunk changes this by making it more easy to read and colorful. The industry is doing well already with a launch just this week. TechCrunch writes that “When you see the results you’ll never want to see flight results in any other format.” Goldstein was happy to hear that Lifehacker thought the visual interface was “fantastic.” They had worked quite a bit to make the website look pleasing to the eye. Test isn’t really all clustered together. It is arranged by color and coded together. A specific grid could be looked at closer very easily. All one has to do is zoom in a little closer.

Using ‘a small, cute animal and a good logo’

Goldstein and Huffman met with a number of online flight booking online websites before settling on a deal with Orbitz, one of probably the most popular online travel aggregators. Orbits and Hipmunk work together to book flights. Hipmunk books it through Orbitz making both win. Hipmunk’s logo is just a simple chipmunk that has flight goggles on it, similar to Twitter with the bluebird. Goldstein’s girlfriend, according to CNN, chose the mascot.

Goldstein explains, “She said, ‘If you pick a small, cute animal and a good logo you’ll never go wrong.’”

Getting ready for winter

Hipmunk is nevertheless within the early process of its evolution and is stockpiling ideas for how to improve. Expanding search functions is something Goldstein would like to do. He’d also like to stop spam from hitting users each time they get on. Expanding into hotels and auto rentals may be a likely move. Many wonder what Hipmunk’s plans are when it comes to adding content. It could be difficult to keep up the design with these changes. Whatever happens, the search for cheap flights is now less frustrating for searchers than ever before.
