Who did Robert Gibbs mean?

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs recently slammed a group of people he referred to as the “professional left.” Though it reminds one of the idealistic days when Dan Quayle was Vice President, it paints a telling portrait of the mood in the Oval Office.

Gibbs doesn’t like the left once they are in the large leagues

The “professional left,” as Press Secretary Robert Gibbs put it, have yet to be satisfied with anything Obama has done as president. He said these individuals would only be happy with health care like Canada and with the Pentagon done away with, in an interview with The Hill. He also said that they were comparing Obama with George W. Bush, and that for doing so, they should all be “drug tested.” The White House Press Secretary also purported they wouldn’t be happy “even if Dennis Kucinich was President.”

Who are these sinister individuals?

Lots of liberals and progressives were less than thrilled that he ditched the public option and has done little on LGBT issues. Some say the White House has not taken a proactive enough role in repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Nevertheless, he nevertheless didn’t articulate well exactly who the professional left are. The interview was published today Gibbs was conspicuously absent from the White House press conference that day. Replacement Bill Burton maintained that Gibbs was sick.

Not one of the most definitive of phrases

Who he meant exactly is unknown, what he was talking about is. Elected officials will always be targets for criticism, because there is no way for them to please anyone.
