Vice cops arrest Howard Arenstein along with his wife

Orly Katz and Arenstein, a high-powered journalistic couple, were both arrested for cannabis production and sale over the weekend. News organizations employ both individuals which were arrested. Arenstein operates as the Columbia Broadcasting System Radio bureau chief in Washington D.C., when Katz acts as a Washington correspondent for Yedioth Ahronoth, a newspaper depending in Israel. Vice squad police officers imprisoned both people when they discovered packaged weed in their home.

Arenstein cuffed by police

Police got a complaint from neighbors about the Arenstein home. On the basis of this complaint, they obtained and used a search warrant. The charges brought against the couple include possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute. No bail was required for Arenstein and Katz. They were released shortly after being charged. D.C. law allows them to wait for their trial when outside of lockup. Punishments for the crimes vary greatly. Arenstein could face as little as a few fines or as much as various years in jail.

Katz and Arenstein charged with possessing cannabis

The Saturday morning raid at Howard Arenstein’s home was carried out by vice police after neighbors complained about the growing weed. The back yard of the house was discovered to have eight foot tall marijuana plants. When executing the search warrant, law enforcement also found 12 ounces of weed, packaged in six two-ounce bags. The intent to distribute charge is based on the small packages of controlled substances discovered.

Employers may investigate Arenstein

CBS News officials have declined to officially remark on Howard Arenstein’s arrest. The investigation to the arrest by the station has been started, though, according to some informants inside the radio station. It is possible that both Howard Arenstein and Orly Katz could lose their reporting jobs for this arrest, though not necessarily certain. D.C. doesn’t have a medical cannabis law, which indicates there is no lawful recourse for the couple.
