Path is a brand new picture sharing network for iPhone users. But when it comes to friends, Path goes against the grain of current social network convention by limiting users to just 50 of them. The friend restricts imposed by Path will hinder its widespread adoption, according to some industry analysts, however there are other who welcome the introduction of a social networking with built-in restraint.
Just 50 buddies in iPhone sharing with Path
All of the social networks that are trying to be just like Facebook do not compare to the Path iPhone app that has no more than 50 buddies allowed in an account with the social network. It also takes steps to make sure Path iPhone photos stay private. Both Facebook and Twitter have a policy of having more buddies than any person else. Path on the other hand thinks that after so many people are angry about Facebook privateness setting issues, they might enjoy having a more private and intimate group to join. Facebook and Twitter spreading so much personal info has made many people really mad. In fact, those over 30 have been really angry about it.
fifty friend is the Path max
A 50 buddy limit is what Path uses to make it distinct than everyone else. Oxford Professor of Evolutionary Psychology Robin Dunbar said, based on former Facebook executive Dave Morin in a blog introducing Path, “150 is the maximum number of social relationships that the human brain can sustain at any given time." Personal relationships are what Dunbar suggests are very valuable. He also says that you will find just fifty people an individual can really trust and consider valuable. Thus, Path lets users feel more comfortable about being personal than Facebook or Twitter.
Did Path use a bad idea?
For social networking, Path might not work. This is what Om Malik at Gigacom suggests. Based on Malik, Facebook can already do this. People are able to control their friends. Path is intended all for smartphones and iPhones which he points out most of his 50 buddies he'd want on there do not have. There are rivals of Path. They are Picplz, Instagr.am and DailyBooth. They have all done well. There was a ton of money made from it. But money can’t buy you buddies.
