Research implies marriage might be nearly obsolete

Marriage is outdated - study implies changing U.S.

The classification of matrimony can vary, depending upon the source. It’s emotional, it’s practical and, based on Pew Research Center, marriage may even be becoming outdated in America. According to the Associated Press, more kids than ever before live in single-parent family members due to separation and divorce, splitting up or no marriage at all.

Are you currently a family only within matrimony?

In conjunction with Time magazine, the Pew team study indicates that not only is the notion of the importance of marriage in flux, however the classification of the American family members is more fluid than ever. Now the Census Bureau has had to change exactly what it means to be a family member. Due to poverty and unmarried couples, exactly what constitutes a family has changed quite a bit.

Family doesn't necessarily mean matrimony anymore. This is what Pew team explains. Dr. Andrew Cherlin works at Johns Hopkins University as a sociology and public policy professor. He told the AP that "Now you will find several ways to have a successful family member’s life and more individuals accept them.”

Families in America statistics

According to the Pew matrimony and family research, 29 percent of children live in single- or two-parent family members who are unwed or not longer married. That’s five times the number of such families in 1960. 39 percent of individuals in the Pew study gave one large answer to a question. They said that matrimony was going to become obsolete soon. That number was down in 1978. It was only 28 percent of Americans who felt this way. This correlates with the Pew findings as shown in the United States of America census data from Sept 2010. only 52 percent of adults over 18 were married.

The bad economy

About 80 percent of those responding said that "an unmarried, opposite-sex couple with children or a single parent" is considered a family members, 60 percent said a same-sex couples with kids were family members and almost everybody agreed that a married couple is a family. The unmarried life is something economics has affected quite a bit. Just since this past year there has been a huge increase. This means that an opposite-sex unmarried couple has gone up 13 percent. Fewer individuals have been willing to commit to long-term marriage with the joblessness as it is. Also, rates have declines as more "alternative" families have been given advantages like health insurance.
